It’s an overdue addition but I wanted to share some thoughts and ideas of ways I plan to be more environmentally conscious with my work as well as practices I already have in place. Not everything will be fully thought through and there may well be some mistakes or things that people who are more informed than me will pull me up on. I’d appreciate your input and suggestions!

Travel

So this is the big one for me and so many wedding photographers. We need to travel and we also love it. I’m also in a bit of a unique position in that I work regularly between two countries, the UK where I’m from and Austria where we live now. I’ve done a huge amount of flying over the past couple of years and when I review it, many dates could have probably been reduced with a little better organisation.

Therefore…

Initial Consultations
The majority of these already happen over Whatsapp video or Skype, and going forward I will strongly encourage all initial meetings to be virtual. We can still have a coffee together and I can show you album samples and meet your dog, all things I really love! But unless we happen to be in the same place at the same time, let’s keep these online and save those miles.

Engagement Shoots
Date options for engagement shoots will be more limited from now on. I will be aiming to accommodate multiple shoots within the same day at nearby locations. I understand couples want the location to be meaningful and we can still ensure we find amazing places to shoot. I just can’t justify travelling so far for individual shoots.

Venue Rekkies
If haven’t shot at your venue before I’m often asked if I need to look around before the big day. Whilst this is helpful and nice it’s not a necessity so please ask me about this if you’re concerned and we can have a chat. I normally arrive on the day a little earlier than the official shoot start time so I can have a good look around and a chat with staff.

Car share
If we’re travelling to an elopement shoot or somewhere out in the wilds I’m always up for car sharing with you and am happy to drive! It’s also a great opportunity to get to know each other better before the shoot.

Deliverables

Welcome Packs
All welcome packs are now delivered digitally as a pdf.

Contracts
All agreements are also now delivered digitally and for future couples you will be able to sign these electronically so you don’t need to print & scan.

Forms
I’ll now ask you to fill in a form on my website with the details of your day (group shot list, timings etc) rather than post anything to me.

Albums & Prints
My current suppliers already have great green credentials, but I’ve also recently sourced a new album supplier I am trialing at the moment, so I will be updating couples individually about the developments with this and update this section when I have more information.
Album covers will use organic materials as far as possible going-forward, natural linens for example are a great option. Leather is no longer available as a cover choice (sorry).

USB boxes
From August 2020 I will be giving my couples the option to forgo the USB box backup and to receive their images as digital downloads only. The price will of course be adjusted accordingly. Digital downloads are still the same high-resolution quality, you’ll just be responsible for saving your images securely once downloaded, although your images can still be re-downloaded for up to one year after your wedding.

Extras

  • Taking public transport where possible, if not then a contribution to the relevant carbon offsetting scheme when flying.

  • Use of re-chargeable batteries.

  • Elimination of plastic and the use of natural packaging materials only for posted goods, plus general re-use of packaging materials.

  • A paper free office.

  • Re-fillable water bottles / food bottles.

A little contribution from me

Lastly I happy to announce that I am now the proud owner of a corporate grove with Trees for Live, who are working hard to re-wild the Scottish Highlands. For every wedding and elopement I shoot I will add a tree to the grove on your behalf.

If you would also like to add a tree or share with your wedding guests, or if you are a past couple or family member who would like to contribute a tree, you can do so via the following link:

Thankyou! x
